Hazardous Materials Disposal

The chemicals used in the Gold Plating process contain HAZARDOUS MATERIALS.

Proper disposal of Hazardous Materials is important.

As a mobile gold plater, you will accumulate a small amount of Hazardous Materials from each gold plating job. Since most of the accumulation is rinse water run off, it will evaporate. You can store this limited amount of Hazardous Materials waste in a BLACK COLOR plastic 55 gallon drum. You can find such a "BLACK COLOR - 2 BUNG HOLE - PLASTIC DRUM" in an assortment of places. One of which is a drum recycling business.

To locate a drum recycling business, simply check the Yellow Pages in your area. If you do not find a drum recycling business in a rural type area, check the Yellow Pages for a recycling business in a larger city near you.

If you still can not find such a place, we can source a drum for you and ship it to you. We will bill you for the costs involved.

You want to be sure the recycled drum is CLEAN. This cleaning and recycling service is the type of operation they provide.

When you fill the drum, which is estimated to take you between 800 and 1000 gold plating jobs, there are services who will haul the Hazardous Materials away for proper disposal.

Lets say you do one gold plating job a day, 5 days a week and do that 50 weeks a year. That is 250 Gold Plating Jobs a year, at that rate. If you remain at that rate, you will take between 4 and 5 years to fill the first drum.

Next, lets calculate the money. Doing one Gold Plating Job a day is 5 a week times 50 weeks or 250 a year. If your "average retail sale" is only $200, you will make $50,000. That is 250 X $200 = $50,000. Then multiply the $50,000 by 4 years to get $200,000.00 in sales over 4 years. Then multiply it by 5 and get $250,000 in sales over 5 years.

Currently, as a small volume producer, you can store up to 4 drums. Going on the  previously mentioned fill rate, it is probably going to take you 16 to 20 years to fill all 4 drums.

Calculating the money on the maximum time to fill a drum being 5 years, at $50,000 a year, over the 4 drums to fill, and you see a MILLION DOLLARS IN SALES. Then you will have to find a place to haul the waste away, 20 years from when you start filling them.

Please note, we are not telling you what money you will make in what time frame. We are simply pointing out that it is important to be aware of the need for proper disposal. however, it is not realistically logical to make a big issue over a small matter.

Further, if you do one retail a job a WEEK (which is probably more typical of the part time business people seem to get in) the time it takes to fill the 4 drums stretches a lot longer. Potentially 100 years.

There will be "paperwork" to fill out when you get to the point where you need to dispose of the accumulated Hazardous material. This is one of the reasons why we provide M.S.D.S. information with each chemical we ship.

Whenever you need to do the disposal, the Disposal Company you use will help you fill out all of the appropriate paperwork, whatever paperwork is appropriate at the time of the disposal.

There are a number of services in business today to Haul Away HAZARDOUS MATERIALS. We do not know who will be the best choice for you, in your area, when you are finally ready to call for disposal, THOUSANDS OF gold plating jobs from now.

When you get to the point of needing a Hazardous Materials Disposal, you will be able to find a company who will properly dispose of the materials.

The bigger concern to you right now is getting to people who own vehicles so you can offer them your Gold Plating Services.
