WHAT IS POLISHING?

After a part is stamped out, or machined, or cast, the next step in the finishing operation is to polish the part.

The polishing operation is a surface enhancement by using a polishing wheel to remove portions of the metal surface. It is fair to say this smoothes the surface, which is typically done by an abrasive material. This may be an abrasive belt, a grinding wheel or other abrasive media.

The POLISHING is designed to remove large amounts of metal from a particular surface.

POLISHING is generally used to smooth out scratches pits, die marks and other large types of surface defects that make the part look bad.

In POLISHING assorted polishing lubricants are used to allow the polishing  media to slide across the metal surfaces and not tear up the metal surfaces.
