Are the products LAB TESTED?
I always like this question because it reminds me
of a person I knew of from years ago.
I first met this guy in 1979. He had a company
that was the selling office in Minnesota for a company who made Pressure Washers. These
are the types of items you plug into an electrical outlet, and connect to a garden hose so
you can have higher pressure to wash items. A lot like a coin operated spray car wash.
When I ran into him again in 1987 he was assembling electrical motors, pumps and assorted
items to make his own brand of Pressure Washers. He needed people on the road to sell his
product. His customer base was the John Deere Farm Implement Dealer. The pressure washer
line John Deere had was not as good as what we were offering and we had a very attractive
price as well. I started selling the systems and we developed a loyal group of customers
over the years. I covered the Great Lakes States of Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio and
Wisconsin.
One of the items he wanted to get to was to have a
UL Listed product without having to pay for it. After some discussion, he figured that
since the Electric Motor had a UL Listing, he decided to start telling people the Motor
was UL listed. It was!
Although the motor itself was UL
Listed, it WAS NOT UL Listed in the application
he was using it in.
So, you can say he told the truth, although not
the whole truth and nothing but the truth.
In another discussion he mentioned the system he
sold was LAB approved. Since I knew he did not get the UL Listing, I asked him WHAT LAB
approved it.
His response was "An Independent Lab."
You have to remember, I knew this guy pretty good.
He had a really good product and there was seldom any problems with it.
I did not question the product, I questioned some
of the "stories" I got to hear. Since I kept after him for the Name of the LAB
that actually approved it, one of the other people took me aside and explained it really
was an Independent Lab, it was a LABrador Retriever DOG that had approved the system!
Now, another company offering Pressure Washers on
the Internet claims an Independent Lab approves their product as well. They have a picture
of a LABrador Retriever on their Web Site sitting next to the pressure washer. You ready
know who the LAB was that approved their line of Pressure Washers. As well as how they
figured out how the LAB approved of it!
Are our products Gold Plating systems LAB TESTED
and APPROVED?
Well, you could say YES and NO. We once had
neighbors on both sides of the Commercial Industrial Building we own in Reading and each
had Labrador Retrievers.
Our Commercial Industrial Building was originally
a part of the DAIRY in Reading, called, logically enough, the Reading Dairy. The owner of
the dairy lived in the house to the west of our building. Over the years the
Real Estate of the
dairy property were divided into 3 or 4 portions. 217 is one of the portions. Some person
put a Mobile Home on the lot to the east of us to go along with several structures the
dairy once had.
Anyway, our Commercial Industrial Building is in a
Residential Area.
Both of the neighbors LAB dogs were tied up, a lot
of the time. I want to add that I personally BRIBED each of them with DOG TREATS regularly
and frequently! The one on the west Side was more brazen in the approach since I knew that
dog since it was a Puppy. If he was loose and I drove into the parking area he would be at
my drivers door within seconds. He knew I kept dog treats in my vehicle and that he would
get one from me! I guess I am a soft touch for animals, and they know it quickly.
Anyway, seeing how I BRIBED both of them with DOG
TREATS regularly and frequently, so well, and for so long, I am confident that I can tell
you our products meet with the approval of at least TWO LABS!
However, absent test results from places like UL
Laboratories, Consumer Reports, Popular Science, Popular Mechanics and so on, claiming LAB
APPROVAL can be a DOGgone good statement that is hard to trace and or disprove.
PLEASE NOTE. Since the time this page
was initially written, both of the neighbors, and their dogs, have moved.
However, in
2000, there is a new family living in the house on the west side of 217 East
Lincoln and they have 2 LABS in their yard. I have not bribed them as much
since they are normally behind a chain link fence. On the few occasions that I
got to pet them they were very friendly so I am sure they approve of us
too.
Over the years I have used a phrase
"Nationally Recognized Independent Outside Testing Laboratory" to attempt to
describe a well known, fair and impartial testing facility like UL Laboratories, Consumer
Reports to name just two.
No company I know of has their Gold Plating
Equipment or Gold Plating Supplies tested and approved by any "Nationally Recognized
Independent Outside Testing Laboratory." This does not, in any way, mean the vendors
are not offering equipment that works. From what I can tell, the basic gold plating
systems all work at an acceptable level if they have enough amps. 25 amps is the minimum
to be able to strip chrome, typically working at 12 volts. To plate, it takes even less
amps.
All this addresses is the question over which lab
did what tests and how relevant and reliable are any such tests.
- Also, I am confident that it is possible to come up
with assorted results, all depending on what you are looking to get as an answer.
- Since the person asking for the test is the person
paying for the results, it can have an impact on the results.
The latest news is the person who lives in the
house across the street from 217 East Lincoln.
The guy across the street purchased a GOLD colored LABrador
retriever and the young dog is very friendly. The dog is so young and friendly, the
dog runs right up to me and wants attention. I guess I meet with this LAB'S approval as
well. This may qualify us to say that we are approved by THREE LABS.
The guy does not have the dog tied up outside. He
has the dog outside only when he is outside and is working on Voice Commands with the dog.
Since the dog is across the street, I am not going to bribe this one with Dog Treats. I am
worried he will get hit by a car crossing the street.
Anyway, I am now technically able to say that we
are "APPROVED by the GOLD LAB" for whatever that is worth and are happy to add that it is the Gold
colored Labrador Retriever from across the street!
