BLACK CHROME - BLACK PEARL
PLATING
What some people call Black Chrome is called
Black Pearl by others. This type of plating represents a very small part of the
overall plating that is going on today. The biggest part of the plating that is
going on remains the 24K Gold Plating as a DRESS UP accessory for vehicles.
However, because some of the of OEM Vehicles
that are coming with this type of plating, there is some interest on the part of
individual gold platers to offer this service.
As a service to our customers, as well as to the
general information to a number of people who are looking for information on this type of plating,
we are providing the following information.
The Black Chrome and or Black Pearl plating
process was not as durable as desired. The front emblems were particularly easy
to damage, which caused WARRANTY PROBLEMS for the brush plater who did the work.
Because of all the WARRANTY PROBLEMS with the
front emblems plated in Black Chrome - Black Pearl, vendors stopped providing
the chemicals and when the supply dried up, the process ended. If you can
find a person who still has some supplies, they might be able to do the work for
you. We do not know of anyone who does this work, reliably, anymore. Beyond the
difficulty in finding a person to do the work, it seems unwise to do a job that
is going to be a WARRANTY PROBLEM in the future.
