Can I Gold Plate BOAT PARTS?

YES and NO. To answer this takes a bit of a description.

Since the idea of dressing up a vehicle is popular, why not do it on BOATS?

The answer is, you CAN if you are careful and limit your work to SOME ITEMS.

What are the limits?

Any device on a boat that has a level of regular abrasive use will not hold a gold plating job. The DEVICES you have to looking at are the line holding devices and so on. As an example, look at where the ANCHOR and or DOCK LINES are either tied to the boat or pass through from the tie spot on the boat to the tie spot on the dock.

The ANCHOR LINE and the DOCK LINES are always putting a strain on the lines. This strain will RAPIDLY WEAR OFF any gold 24 karat Gold Plated finish done by ANY BRUSH PLATING MACHINE from ANY SOURCE.

The same stain "RAPIDLY WEARING OFF" any TANK PLATED finish done by any standard TANK PLATING PROCESS.

Be sure you understand we did not say anything negative on the quality of the gold plating finish deposited by any gold plating system, from any source.

What we said talked about the abrasive wear caused by the dock lines and such constantly wearing on the assorted line attachment points on the boat and the line holding devices on the boat.

What you CAN DO, are the SCRIPTS on the boats, as long as they are CHROME.

The three step process is the same.

1. STRIP THE CHROME.

2. ACTIVATE THE NICKEL.

3. DEPOSIT THE 24 KARAT GOLD.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONCERNS INCREASE DRAMATICALLY if you are attempting to do Gold Plating on a boat while the boat is in the water! Any accidental chemical spill could contaminate the water.

On a related item, any part of your EXPENSIVE EQUIPMENT you drop overboard, may be hard to recover and reuse!

NOTE: Salt Water causes a lot of problems with Marine finishes or all types, including GOLD PLATED ITEMS.

Vanity is a big item with Boat owners too. They may want their vehicles gold plated at the same time.
