EXACTLY HOW MUCH MONEY CAN YOU MAKE GOLD PLATING?

Try this as an example.

Figure you do the work for individuals, on their cars, at an average of $200 per vehicle.

Figure you work 8 hours a day, 5 days a week.

The average vehicle will take you, lets say, about one hour to do the work.

So, one vehicle an hour times 8 a day, times 5 days a week, times 50 weeks a year, is 2,000 vehicles, times $200 a vehicle is $400,000 in gross sales in a year.

If you do the same formula based on a $250 per gold plating job, it is 2,000 vehicles X $250 which equals $500,000 in gross sales in a year.

Can you do that?

I do not know of any person who can. So, I see such mathematical estimates as absurd. Although, the income is theoretically possible as long as you can line up a long line of customers, one right after another.

What I know you can do is make money in gold plating when the cost to do the work is low and the profit margin is high. I know the average person develops a decent side income on a part time basis. While others include Gold Plating as a part of their overall business operations and do good at making money with gold plating as well.

Selling to NEW CAR DEALERS is one area where you may be able to find a volume of vehicles in one spot.

Again, one an hour, times 8 hours a day, 5 days a week over 50 weeks is 2,000 vehicles. Since a NEW CAR DEALER will expect to pay wholesale, figure you charge them $100. 2,000 vehicles times $100 is $200,000, right?

If you figure it at the higher wholesale price of $125, it is $250,000, right?

Yes it does add up that way in figures. However, I do not have any independent outside confirmation of ANYONE ANYWHERE doing that.

I do hear stories about fantastic income potential.

What I am unable to get is the independent outside confirmation of the alleged information in the stories.

I would want to see the Income Tax Refunds for the year or years involved before I were to believe anything like the fantastic income projections and claims I hear and read on the Internet.

So much for so called STORIES and overly blown income potentials.

I have a customer in a small town in Indiana (with just under 10,000 people) who has a portable gold plating system. This person made, approximately $3,000 in income, over a one year period, working after their DAY JOB and on some weekends. They did GOLD PLATING mostly for CONSUMERS on Cars, Trucks and Vans. The hours this person worked made doing work for Car Dealers impractical. And, in such a small town, Dealer work is scarce too. Granted, $3,000 is not a lot of money. However, the person paid for their equipment and managed to make a profit too. That is good. The $3,000 in income was EXTRA MONEY for the person. A lot of people could use extra money.

Clearly, $500,000.00 in income is totally illogical. The $3,000 may seem like a small income but it IS INCOME, real income! You will probably make more providing that you promote yourself and live in a larger town.

We have other customers who are earning a lot more than the $3,000 as well.

So, how does this impact on you, and how much money you can make?

Exactly where do you live?

1. Small town, population of 10,000 or less?

2. Large Town, population of 25,000 or so?

3. Small City, population of 50,000 or so?

4. Medium City, population 100,000 or so?

5. Big City, population of MILLIONS?

Exactly what type of work do you do?

1. Temporarily out of work?

2. Office Worker?

3. Factory Worker

4. Experienced in SELLING?

5. Working in an AUTOMOTIVE RELATED SERVICE INDUSTRY, such as a Detailing Shop, Customizing Shop, Car Dealer Service Company / Installer?

Real quick, you can add up the score. Small towns rate low. I live in a small town and like it. However, there is little chance of selling Gold Plating in a town of 1,200 people!

I know how to do the Gold Plating work and I have all of the equipment and supplies ready to go. I still would not expect to sell anyone in Reading. It is not a realistic sales potential in a town of 1,100 people.

The bigger the town, the higher the number.

Same for the present job. If you are not working, I do not suggest you spend a lot of money to go into Gold Plating unless you were previously working in an automotive related service industry in a larger sized city. That means you would already have CONTACTS.

However, if you are already working in an automotive related service industry, you would probably be adding Gold Plating to the other services you offer your existing customers. If this is you, you are in the right place and can make money. If I were to toss out an average, it is reasonable to say that a person who owns and operates a Detailing / Customizing / Car Wash / Accessory type business will gold plate an average of one vehicle a week. Some do more, some do less. And, this is a Seasonal Business in certain areas. In Chicago and Detroit, during the Winter, people are cold and gold is not on the top of their list of things to check into. However, SPRING brings all sorts of activity.

It is not as easy as adding up the so called score.

  • However, if you are living in a small town ( 1 ) and are Temporarily out of work ( 1 ), you scored low. And, I would not suggest you get into Gold Plating. Your realistic income potential is low.

  • Or, if you live in a large metropolitan area with MILLIONS of people ( 5 ) and you are already working in an AUTOMOTIVE RELATED SERVICE INDUSTRY ( 5 ), you scored HIGH. Based on this, I would strongly suggest you consider a very serious look into your offering a Gold Plating Service to consumers.

  • There are always exceptions. A number of Gold Platers are a spouse who is not the main income producer for the family. In this instance, the idea of PART TIME work, in a profitable industry, can make sense. Particularly if you live in a bigger town or small city.

  • ALWAYS REMEMBER no matter what the product is or who does the work, it takes a lot of people in the area to generate enough SALES and INCOME to make a go of any business. With VANITY GOLD PLATING, it takes a lot more than you may expect.

Then, what about the odd reversals of the above information.

Where you live in a small town ( 1 ) working in an automotive related service industry ( 5 )? There are customizers who live in a small town and drive to service a larger area, or live in a small town fairly close to a large city. However, if your experience in an automotive related service industry is working in a service station / convenience store, you missed the definition of Detailing Shop, Customizing Shop, Car Dealer Service Company / Installer.

Or, where you are Temporarily out of work and live in a Big City with a population of MILLIONS of people? You are in a densely populated area and that is good. Are you active? Are you accustomed to working on cars? Did you do any SELLING? Do you know a lot of people who would spend money dressing up their vehicles? If you hit a lot of YES answers, you may be in the right place at a good time. However, your income potential will probably not be as much as you were accustomed to making in your regular job.

If this sounds as if I am attempting to give you negative information, it is not. I am attempting to give you a realistic look at objective income potential. Your buying any type of  equipment, to do any sort of work, at any price, is no assurance of your actually making money. And, making money is the only real reason people go into business. This is just as true of Gold Plating equipment as it is of Carnival Supplies. Having the materials and being able to make money with them is not the same!

To answer the question "EXACTLY HOW MUCH MONEY CAN YOU MAKE GOLD PLATING?" Literally, it really must take into consideration where you live and who you are. The right person, living in the right town, with existing contacts in the automotive service industry will see a profit. Probably about $10,000 a year. Some can do more, and the person in Indiana did less.

Before you buy into any system that is going to make you money, you MUST take the time to consider the facts. Paying little money for a machine or a lot of money for a machine will not automatically make you money. If you pay a lot or if you pay little, the actual results still depend on where you live, your experience, and your contacts.

Having any equipment at any price is no assurance of your actually making money. And, making money is the only real reason people go into business.

As a final note, all of the gold plating equipment, at all price points, will do basically the same gold plating job. Some units with higher AMPS can do a piece faster but not all that much faster.
