AMERICAN GOLD PLATING EQUIPMENT & SUPPLY INTERMEDIATE LEVEL What do I need to know if I own a business in the Auto Industry? PLEASE NOTE: LEASE NOTE: The INTERMEDIATE LEVEL is many pages long. It is hard to read information from a computer monitor. American Gold suggests you print these pages and read them from paper. This will give you a copy for future reference as well. The INTERMEDIATE LEVEL is for a business owner or manager with experience running a business in the Automotive Industry, such as a Detailing Shop or a Customizing Shop without direct experience in Gold Plating. There is money to be made in Gold Plating. You gold plate the scripts while they are on the vehicle. Average time to do the average vehicle is 30 to 45 minutes.
The average vehicle has 5 scripts. Which means some have less and some have more. Typically, the older luxury vehicles had more. Older Cadillac's had up to 13. An antennae bezel is small and has a small cost. A larger script like the PONY on the front of a Mustang is larger and costs more to Gold Plate. The average cost per script / emblem is $2.00. ALL of the gold plating machines on the market today are pretty much the same. We refer to these as POWER SUPPLIES.
Each machine, from any manufacturer has the ability to do the same plating jobs as any other machine from any other manufacturer. The only difference hinges on some machines accepting a 12 volt power for operation. These are, for all practical purposes, a limited segment of the market.
The process of gold plating is an old and well developed process. 1. You ELECTRO CHEMICALLY STRIP OFF THE CHROME, EXPOSING THE LAYER OF NICKEL BELOW THE O.E.M. CHROME. 2. You ELECTRO CHEMICALLY ACTIVATE THE NICKEL. 3. You ELECTRO CHEMICALLY DEPOSIT / BOND 24 KARAT GOLD TO THE EXPOSED AND ACTIVATED NICKEL. There are claims the machines can CHROME PLATE a part. ALL Gold Plating machines from ALL manufacturers and vendors have the ability to electro chemically deposit a finish on a surface of a piece. Some of the finishes are not as durable as other finishes. What is commonly referred to as BRUSH CHROME PLATING does not offer a lasting finish. It is not the machine or the capabilities of the operator of the machine, it has to do with the electro chemical process. It is very similar to the concept of doing a nickel strike on stainless steel and then attempting to gold plate that nickel. The gold will stick for a while. However, it is not a durable finish and will eventually lead to warranty concerns. In some areas, money and warranty is not a concern. In other areas, cost and warranty is a concern. VANITY sells well in almost every area. Because you are already operating a business related to the Automotive Industry, you have existing customers and the potential to make sales to consumers as they come into your shop. If you have a MOBILE OPERATION, you have a potential to offer GOLD PLATING to your existing New Car and Used Car dealer customers. Typical Gold Plating customers explain they have a return of their investment in equipment and start up supplies within 30 days. Subsequent reorders of just consumable chemicals and supplies are rapidly paid for, from profits. With the ability to do customer gold plating, you will see the increase in the average ticket sale, with an increase in GROSS SALES and NET PROFITS to your store. If you expect to do the work in your shop, you can consider using a rolling cart. The machines should all fit on a rolling cart where you can keep the supplies all in one spot. Some gold plating machine owners who have a shop, also do some mobile work. In this instance, you can find a system that will fit into a tool box. This will suit your SHOP or MOBILE operation. There are basic Gold Plating systems that will do the same quality gold plating job as the Gold Plating units with additional, and unnecessary, DRESS UP trimmings to the Gold Plating system that add to the cost (and vendors profits) which do not add to the value of the unit and or the quality of the work it can and will perform. Typically, the smaller units have less AMPS, while the larger units offer higher amps. At a minimum, the infrequent user would want a minimum of a 25 amp system. You will not typically use 25 amps. You will use less but have the idea or a reserve. The 25 amp machine allows for protection of the power supply. The Power Supply we provide AUTOMATICALLY ADJUSTS for the amount of AMPS you would need in the different gold plating operations. The user who may do 5 vehicles in a row, needs a larger unit. Commonly a 35 amp unit. The reason is simple. Repeated use could develop into a higher amp draw and a more experienced user may gold plate longer in a given session than an inexperienced user may do. In this instance, a 35 amp machine is a smarter buy. Typically, at only $30 more than the 25 amp system.
