SECURITY FOR YOUR CREDIT CARD AT AMERICAN GOLD

The news out in late December of 2000 explains that a hacker, or hackers, has figured out a way to get into a number of companies Web Site databases to steal many credit card numbers. 

The hacker, or hackers, are starting to charge small amounts on many thousands of credit cards. The amounts are typically under $30 and go essentially undetected and unchallenged. 

The assumption is that such a small amount is not as likely to be suspect and or noticed on a Credit Card statement. 

While the theft is small, at under $30, it is probably a misdemeanor crime, but it is still a crime against the person who owns the Credit Card. However, it is large money when you figure the number of charges they are making times the small amount of $30. It adds up!

Eventually, there will be figures on how much money they got before they were stopped. I can only wonder how much that will be.

We want you to know the types of security measures we have for American Gold customers Credit Card information.

As a security measure, we DO NOT accept your Credit Card information by the Internet through our Web Site or by e-mail. 

While it is possible to establish a secure link from your computer to our Web Site, it is still possible for hackers to break into the web site data base to steal the credit card information. That is how the hackers did it recently at other Web Sites.

We keep the Credit Card information from our customers safe because we do not store that information in a computer that is connected to the Internet. Access to the computer with the Credit Card information is limited.

Logically, a hacker might try to get to a major eCommerce COM web site. I doubt they would even look at our Web Site since we are not one of the major etailers of product promoted daily on television and in print. Still, we are not taking any chances. 

We believe this is a smart move that benefits all of us. 

Additionally, as a part of long standing company policy, we do not pass out, or sell, any information we obtain from customers or prospects.
