THE GOLD PLATING INDUSTRY IN GENERAL

It is hard to write just a few words about an entire industry.

  • For all practical purposes, all of the Mobile Gold Plating machines are basically the same.
  • To that extent, whatever Gold Plating machine you buy should do the job of gold plating.

It is fair to say there are a growing number of companies offering Mobile Gold Plating Equipment & Supplies today.

In fact, I see new company names on the Net, offering Gold Plating Equipment. The reason for this is simple, actually. It is not all that hard to obtain a 110 volt to 12 volt power supply, add in a few chemicals, a promise of large income potential, and so on.

In a response to the explosion of companies offering gold plating systems, other existing vendors are responding by attempting to call systems other than the ones they provide as "battery charger type gold plating systems" which is an incorrect statement.

As we mentioned above, for all practical purposes, all of the Mobile Gold Plating machines are basically the same. All you need to do is to get one with at least 25 amps so it will strip chrome.

Since we started to offer the Gold Plating Equipment in 1996, we have also seen companies go out of business

The common thread that binds the new companies offering Gold Plating Equipment, seems to be the GOOD LOOKING WEB SITE combined with a glowing image of a large income potential. At least it seems to get attention.

Several companies who were selling Mobile Gold Plating Equipment & Supplies in the early part of the 1990's are gone now.

And, apparently, someone has started a new company using the name of a company who stopped selling Mobile Gold Plating Equipment & Supplies in the early part of the 1990's.

Several other companies who were selling Mobile Gold Plating Equipment & Supplies, stopped selling the Gold Plating Equipment & Supplies, and now offer other products.

Several new companies recently got attention by going into selling Mobile Gold Plating Equipment & Supplies.

Other companies are now working as distributors for companies who still offer Mobile Gold Plating equipment and Supplies.

Other companies, companies we recently learned about, have offered Mobile Gold Plating Equipment & Supplies for some time. Or so the story says.

Several companies who started offering Gold Plating Equipment & Supplies on an exclusive basis, several years ago, added other automotive accessory lines.

As I said before, for all practical purposes, all of the Mobile Gold Plating machines are basically the same. To that extent, whatever Gold Plating machine you buy should do the job of gold plating.

That includes gold plating of chrome scripts and chrome emblems on cars, trucks and vans. Plus bathroom fixtures, boats, airplanes, wheels, bumpers, and so on.

Plating different finishes on different surfaces takes different chemicals but all of the machines would have the ability to do it.

I do not know of any company offering a machine that does not work.

  • Technically you can gold plate with a 12 volt BATTERY CHARGER! To do it would take special items and then it is limited. However, it can be done!

A common experiment in High School was plating with a battery charger. It is impractical to do any volume that way and safety concerns dictate using a simple power supply with overload protection built in.

A power supply with more DC AMPS can do a larger piece easier and smaller pieces faster. However, all units have the potential to do the work.

We believe that American Gold gives you honest value for the prices we charge. That makes a substantial difference.

Used machines do come into the market. Since it is profitable to do the work, there is a lingering question about why a GOOD USED MACHINE would come on the market. If another person could not make it work good enough for them to make money, will you be able to use the same unit?

As long as the Gold Plating System works, the current owner would probably use it to make money, or, if it were an extra system, it is cheap insurance to have a back up power supply and gold plating system, once you are in the business. Service to the customer is still the key to this, and many other businesses. .

  • On a side issue, perhaps the local market you are in may not offer enough SALES POTENTIAL so a person can earn enough real income. Be sure to check out our FIRST LEVEL for more information. It is probably worth your time to print the FIRST LEVEL as a reference tool. A short time spent now may save you money.

On the RARE OCCASION we have a USED UNIT, it is a POWER SUPPLY we used to experiment with IN-HOUSE or use it in a Trade Show, not a machine that has had much use.

What if the Gold Plating unit breaks down, then what. Yes, you need an immediate replacement. Then, have the original one FIXED. We offer a repair service. Average cost to repair a Gold Plating power supply is $100.

What about a FACTORY REFURBISHED GOLD PLATING SYSTEM at a DISCOUNT?

When I look at the concept of FACTORY REFURBISHED, I have to wonder. The power supply is about the only thing to go wrong. The rest are a few wires and so on. How big can the discount be? We provide the MOBILE TYPE 30 AMP Power Supply for only $185. We provide the 25 AMP Pyramid Power Supply for $155 and the 35 AMP Pyramid Power Supply for only $185. We fix other multi-wire systems for $100. I simply do not understand why a refurbished machine should sell at a huge discount. It seems wrong.

WHAT IF YOU ALREADY HAVE A POWER SUPPLY?

Over the years, I sold a number Gold Plating system to people who claim they have a  Power Supply. Usually, what they have is not the same and they wind up getting the  Power Supply with the system.

Recently, I sold a system to a person who recognized the PYRAMID PS36KX Power Supply and said he had one just like that and did not mind the weight. After double checking, we found he did have one. So, I sold him the system WITHOUT the PYRAMID Power Supply. It saved him money.

GOLD PLATING CHEMICAL SOLUTIONS

For all practical purposes, the Gold Plating Solutions are very similar. Although unique formulations are not uncommon. The biggest real difference is in the actual quantity of gold in the solution.

NO STANDARD exists, within the Automotive Industry, to measure the grade and quality of any Gold Plating Solution. And, there is no independent regulatory agency to insure any quality standard.

There are laboratories who can do tests to learn what the quantity of gold is. However, because of the OTHER INGREDIENTS intentionally put into the mixture, it can make it hard to determine exact levels of gold in solutions. Knowing this is why people mixing the gold plating solutions add in the other ingredients. The other ingredients do not hurt the ability to plate, just make it hard to run the tests. This is what our lab tells us.

Gold levels in Gold Plating Solutions provided today range for as little as 1/2 an ounce per gallon to some who claim they provide as much a 5 ounces per gallon. Typically, the different gold levels within the solution are offered at different prices. But, not always.

Despite the difference in gold quantities in the Gold Plating Solution, they all GOLD PLATE, and you have no way to tell the amount of gold in the container. An experienced Gold Plater can only tell you if it GOLD PLATES QUICKLY. If it plates QUICK, that is typically a sign of more gold in the solution. Although there are some other ingredients which can enhance the speed of plating. If it sounds like a mystery, it is.

There is a MIL-SPEC, which stands for "Military Specification," on Gold Plating but it was developed years before the concept of Mobile Gold Plating came about in the early 1990's. And, I expect everyone offering Gold Plating Solutions today can, and or does, meets or exceeds the MIL-SPEC, even though the MIL-SPEC does not apply to Gold Plating scripts and emblems on cars, trucks and vans.
