What is the difference in Electrode Covers?

If you look at a number of the cloth electrode covers you will find there are generally two types.

One is a sort of a flat surfaced cloth material. Some call it a sweatshirt like material. Also, it looks like a paint roller with a short nap, like the types used on flat walls.

What American Gold offers is shown in the following image.

These look more like a fuzzy or wooly cloth. This type looks more like a long nap paint roller used on textured or rough surfaces to carry the paint into the different crevices and portions of the rough and or uneven surface.

Why is one better than the other?

It is quite simple actually.

As you look at a script, you will see it is typically not flat. The Cadillac script a good example of a script that has a substantially uneven surface. You could say the script is a rounded surface with tight crevices.

When you are working on a flat surface, or a fairly flat surface, a flat surfaced cloth works ok.

However, since the majority of the automotive, Marine and Aviation scripts are made with a substantially uneven surface, like the Cadillac script, the best choice for all automotive applications is the fuzzy or wooly cloth. The same applies in general to all brush type gold plating. The fuzzy or wooly cloth will help to carry the gold so the gold throw will get into crevices and it will do an excellent job on flat surfaces as well.

Overall, the smart choice is the fuzzy or wooly electrode cover. That is the type we provide with our Gold Plating Systems so you start with the best materials to do the job.

To give you an idea of the dimension of the synthetic electrode cover, we are including a image of a synthetic electrode cover on a dollar bill.
