What you can gold
plate?
Typically, you can gold plate anything
made of metal.
This broad based description could
include pots and pans, golf clubs, dog watering dishes, gardening tools, watches
and all sorts of things.
However, the BEST things to gold plate
are the things people have where they can SHOW OFF by the display of the gold.
Most commonly, people dress up the vehicles they drive. That is why doing gold
plating on the assorted scripts and emblems on vehicles is popular and a real
money maker for you.
You can gold plate some parts of
a piece of cookware. I know several brands that have really shining
handles and such. However, I do not recall ever hearing of anyone who has really
made any money doing that sort of work. I believe there is at least a few who
have found that specialized niche market but not many. I do not know of anyone
making a living at gold plating pieces of cookware.
As to gold plating silverware
that people eat from, you know, knives, forks and spoons. Remember, the gold
plating solution involved in brush plating contains CYANIDE. Companies who gold
plate silverware use a special tank plating process. That point aside, lets look
at the COST and profits of doing silverware. Take a look at a knife in your
kitchen. It is a fairly long piece, and it is two sided. As you calculate the
surface area of the knife, think in terms of how small a surface area there is
in a set of scripts and emblems on a vehicle. In checking my kitchen, I got a
knife and then tried to figure out how much gold it would take to gold plate the
knife and stacked the surface area up against the average 5 scripts on a
vehicle. Basically, I came away figuring that for the amount of gold, as well as
the time involved, I could gold plate the average 5 scripts on a vehicle for the
amount of gold that I would have to put onto a single knife. If you figure a
place setting of silverware includes a knife, a fork and a spoon and perhaps a
salad fork and a butter knife, the amount of gold would really add up.
Then figure an 8 place setting of the
stuff and you have probably put out enough gold to gold plate the scripts and
emblems on 20 vehicles.
If you apply the estimates of $200 to
$250 per vehicle, is it logical to expect the homeowner to pay you (gold for 20
vehicles X $200 per average vehicle) $4,000 to gold plate their knives forks and
spoons?
I doubt you will find anyone willing
to pay you that much. As a side note, check out what it costs to purchase a set
of gold plated silverware at a department store, or Wal-Mart. I bet it is well
under $4,000.
Based on the prices that you can
purchase a set of gold plated silverware for, why would anyone be willing to pay
much more?
Gold Plating Golf Clubs
is one way to show off and I know a few gold clubs that did get gold plated. It
is typically the PUTTER but that is not the point.
There are other things you can gold
plate, and many electronic items come already gold plated because of the desire
to have a better connection. I recall one company had their "gold line" which
offered gold plated connections on the printer cables and so on.
All of this comes from assorted
factories, not from a person doing work in their home based business.
We see the same ads on the Internet on
how you can gold plate all sorts of things and the seller wants you to believe
that there is unlimited potential, if you purchase from their company.
The reality is quite different.
Basically, as long as you have at least6 25 amps to strip chrome, whatever one
gold plating system can do, another gold plating system can do. The KEY is your
ability to make the sales. The easiest sale is to offer to gold plate the
assorted scripts and emblems on vehicles because that is a way the persons can
SHOW OFF.
